Changes and Orientations of this year.
In this LSM we have chosen "Libre and Change" as our main theme, which symbolizes what we want to aim for throughout this event. Sharing and changes are in order. Sharing with and into the free culture in all aspects of it, with the general public, with professionals and with institutions as a whole, willing to change and transform modern society practices. In order to do so, this year will have more transversal themes, mixing different audiences and different usages, as well as convivial evening parties to enjoy free creations. The Cooperative Needs will be there to provide and establish new contacts. They will also be there as a point of interaction with the audience, helping to search for and find solutions. Finally, the Professional Fair (2 days) will be the place and time to meet all the people working with the Libre as a main and direct source of income. ,This will be the opportunity to underline that free software oriented business can be just as successful and sustainable as others, while making free culture visible and foster its value and valorisation.
This year we wanted less themes compared to previous years, but to make sure that all of the themes match our underlying thread: Libre and Change. We wanted those themes to always be somewhat related to society, in an attempt to emphasize and make more visible the benefits carried and brought through the Libre Movement as a whole, to society. We also aimed at better mixing the different aspects of the Libre. So there is no real technical themes, nor education, free culture or DIY themes, but instead we have selected seven main cross-disciplinary themes. Each theme gathers fields and skills that could overlay another theme depending on thier orientation. For instance, Graphics will most likely be shared by the "User Side" theme and the "Libre Art" theme. most likely be shared by the "User Side" theme and the "Libre Art" theme.
Every evening of the LSM, we'll invite you to celebrate Libre and free culture in evening parties (6-8pm). There will be : free movies (screening), free music (concerts) and free theatre. One evening will be dedicated for the "Meal of the Libre", a regular rendez-vous of the LSM.
These are ways to make bridges between cooperative practices and offers of software support (work in progress or documentation). For starters there will be Lightning Talks and a Post Market.
Lightning Talks are quick 5 minutes's presentation to engage a conversation on a very specific topic with any persons. When the 5 minutes are over, the speaker can go talk with interested persons elsewhere, since another speaker will take his place for his own 5 minutes. Lightning Talks will take place every afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. Registrations will be on site, opening in the morning for the afternoon's talks.
The Post Market will be a place where project's carriers can publish their contacts informations and their needs, in order to look for new people to help and enrich their projects. This is aimed at:
- software developpers, co-dependant of eatch others,
- users with needs, like writing documentation or enhancing a project,
- professionals who want to use free software and needs help to do it,
- institutions or compagnies who wants to invest into a long-term infrastructure,
- many others...
Libre Professionals, we invite you to come and share your methodology and the issues you are facing while trying to expand and promote use of the Libre. We would like to know what are your goals and aspirations and how you deal working with and around free software vis-à-vis of citizen and cooperative movements, as well as institutions and businesses. You will have the opportunity to meet financial backers, lawyers, and many service providers who can facilitate the integration of free software in your organization. Your users and customers will be able to chat directly with your engineers, designers, etc.
The road is long AND the way is Free.
